As we start to enjoy the warmer weather of spring, we are also opening our doors to one of nature’s nastiest insects, ticks.

A tick bite is no longer an annoyance, but a serious health concern now.  Lyme’s and other tick borne diseases are a real and not something we can just brush off.  Keeping safe is a priority – but do we also need to risk our health by using harmful pesticides such as DEET?

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has confirmed that Lemon Eucalyptus oil is as effective as DEET in repelling ticks and mosquitoes.  The only difference is you may need to apply the natural more often.  Not a bad trade off when you consider the harms of DEET.

Here are some additional precautions you should take to prevent tick bites naturally with the following tips:

  1. Wear tight, light-colored clothing to help you see the ticks before they find skin.
  2. Use sticky tape or a lint remover to give your clothes, kids and pets a quick roll and pick up any ticks that may not have latched on.
  3. Lyme disease can not be spread unless a tick has been on your body for 36-48 hours. Check yourself from head to toe regularly throughout the day and before bed.
  4. If you live in a rural area and are allowed to parent poultry, consider adopting some chickens or guinea hens to give your yard a daily insect sweep.
  5. Defend your family with Good Home Natural Tick and Mosquito Repellent! Our repellent is available as a spray or an oil and is made with a blend of essential oils including Lemon Eucalyptus. Our product is safe for the entire family including the dog!
