Essential Oil Winter Protocol
Essential Oil Winter Protocol
The Spring Equinox is 5 weeks away, and these last weeks of Winter may be filled with mixed emotions. You may find yourself tired and surrendering to the cold weather and darker mornings.
At the same time your body may be yearning for the warmth and light of Spring.
These mixed emotions can leave us feeling depressed and even anxious.
For this mixed season, I was called to these oils for healing and health.
Tangerine Oil
Just like an orange a day is good during the Winter months, so is the use of the oil. Tangerine oil clears away the blues and the heaviness of Winter. Add a few drops to bath water, or in a bottle of spring water as a hair rinse. Add it to body lotion or create a body oil with coconut oil.
It also has astringent properties – which makes it a great oil to use as an air freshener and cleaner. Add 10 drops of this oil to ¾ cups of water and ¼ cup of vinegar for a natural deodorizer.
Balsam Fir Needle Oil and Cypress
These two great trees came to me very clearly for grounding. Cypress is one of the most ancient of trees, and has long been used to heal arthritis and poor circulation. The tree itself is considered immortal as the leaves always stay green and never brown. As we tend to be less active in the Winter, Cypress oil is good to use in the bath for a long hot soak. It will help with blood circulation and opening up airways.
Balsam is known for its comforting scent and is a great oil to diffuse bedside. It can help with a chronic cough common during winter and is also grounding, yet uplifting. Use it on a cotton ball and keep it desk side for grounding energy that has been shown to reduce stress. In a pinch, it can be used to clean a wound with a little water, and a drop of oil and can be sprayed on door knobs and counter tops to prevent infection. It has been shown to fight staph. https://draxe.com/fir-needle-essential-oil/
Calendula Oil
Calendula is the extract from the marigold plant and is an excellent skin healer. Calendula can be applied directly to the skin and is excellent for all ages. It is wonderful on the face, dry patches, eczema and psoriasis. It is generally found mixed in an oil base such as olive oil and does not need to be diluted.
Rose Otto
One of the most precious oils in the world, Rose oil is used to open the heart and promote self-love. It’s healing scent brings one to the most powerful state of just being present. True Rose Otto is found diluted as pure oil runs $500 a ¼ of an ounce.
Essential oils are powerful medicine. Always use them diluted and always check with a doctor first if you are pregnant or are undergoing treatment for cancer.
A few reputable sources for oils are Whole Foods – I like the Aura Cacia brand or https://www.mountainroseherbs.com online
